Where can I go?

"AIDeS in Africa"
June 13 - July 3, 2008
Durban, South Africa
Cost: $3500 (this includes airfare which is approximately $2,100, food, housing, ground transport, some supplies, entrance to sightseeing events [i.e. gamepark, table mountain])

The objective of this outreach is to talk about AIDS and act on what we say, by going to visit the sick - bring hope to the hopeless and awareness to the community about AIDS.

We will be working with Good News Ministries in Ntusuma, a township of 500,000 Zulu, formerly a squatter's camp of which 47% are infected with HIV.

Week One:  Orientation in Cape Town, SA.  Fly into Capetown, see Capetown, visit YWAM work there, recover from jetlag and have orientation/team building. After 3-4 days relocate to Durban.

Week Two and Three- We will be serving "Ukukhanya Life Care Centre," a
joint ministry of New Jerusalem Missions from Kansas, and Good News
Ministries of Ntuzuma, SA. They are in the process obtaining land to
start a hospice and feeding scheme for orphans.

Opportunities will include:

   * Home visits to those with AIDS
   * Scouting the need and order of establishing things
   * Prayer walking/sessions seeking God
   * Bids and cost analysis for the project
   * Some physical work to set up the property and secure it
   * Possibly interviewing orphans for the program

This is really a pioneering phase of the work - we are familiar with
the need, the people, and the purpose, and as the director, Penny,
relocates to Durban in April we will have a better understanding of
what is needed.

Acting on AIDS Summit on the Hill

WHEN? May 19-21, 2008
WHERE? Washington, DC

Acting on AIDS is pleased to announce our very first lobby day and student leadership summit in Washington, D.C. This is a time you don't want to miss!

We will have amazing speakers from organizations such as Micah Challenge, Sojourners and World Vision who will teach us not only about advocacy but about how to become daily advocates, keeping transformation and reformation of ourselves and our world at the forefront of our daily thoughts and actions. We will then spend a day meeting with staff and congressional representatives on Capitol Hill, lobbying for international AIDS funding. It will culminate with a coffeehouse featuring Derek Webb, hosted by the
Micah Challenge. This will be a great time to learn, connect with other
students and be transformed!

Registration for the Lobby Day is $99. The cost includes lodging and most
of your food. (If you don't need lodging, registration is only $70.) If you
register by Wednesday, March 26, you'll get $10 off your registration.
